Q: Can you share a bit about your professional background and what led you to switch industries?
Most of my working life was spent in the supply chain procurement sector. During Covid, I decided to make a mid-career switch into the tech industry, which had always fascinated me. My goal now is to work part-time while I seek a full-time role in tech.
Q: What challenges did you face before attending the programme?
After a particularly tough experience at my last job, I left in December. The stress there was unbearable, and I found that looking for a new full-time position was more tolerable in comparison. However, after some time, I started to lose confidence in myself and wondered if I was capable of handling more demanding roles.
Q: How did the EMCC-Barclays LifeSkills Programme help you during this transition?
The programme provided a much-needed safe space and a sounding board where I could share my thoughts and learn from others. It challenged my thought patterns and reminded me that success and achievement were possible even in the most difficult circumstances. The sessions brought me relief, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to attend them.
Q: What key takeaways did you gain from the Programme?
One major realisation was that I was not alone—many others were going through similar struggles and challenges. I learned to take things one day at a time and to keep pushing forward despite the obstacles. It’s okay to struggle and to take breaks; it’s all part of the human experience. While the challenges are still tough, they have humbled me and taught me not to judge others based on my own preconceptions.
