“Why did you jump?”

Albert thought this question could never be answered. His best friend, Erwin, had just killed himself. Erwin was completely normal—exceptional even. A valedictorian, a national youth gymnast, and in a loving relationship. Albert was none of those things. Still, their bond was unbreakable. So why did he jump?

Albert finds himself inside Erwin’s final dream, chasing a ghost that refuses to speak. The deeper he falls into this surreal dreamscape, the more disturbing truths he uncovers—not only about Erwin, but about himself.

Third Man Syndrome, written by Terrance Tan and directed by Ian Loy, is a brave and compassionate reckoning with suicide, a necessary conversation with those left behind, and a story of finding courage in the face of despair.

🌱 Impact Story: Sarah’s Journey

After years of silent burnout, Sarah, a 31-year-old teacher, reached her breaking point. As she lay in tears on her sofa, a scary thought crossed her mind, “I wouldn’t mind if I died right now.” Fortunately, counselling pulled her back from the brink.

Since she was unemployed at the time, EMCC’s subsidy support made therapy possible despite her financial struggles. Through her sessions, Sarah found safety, insight, and gradual healing. She shared, “I used to feel overwhelmed just hearing the MRT jingle that reminded me of work. Now, I hear it and I’m okay. That happened to me, but I’m not there anymore.”

Today, she’s preparing to return to work with hope and strength. And she’s sharing more openly about therapy—to help others know they’re not alone either.
