Group Clinical Supervision in couple counselling:

Integrating experiential approaches into Your Practice

EMCC is pleased to offer this unique opportunity for counselling professionals to reinforce your knowledge and skills in engaging couples from an experiential lens.

In a safe and secure group setting, you will be able to review a recording of your own counselling session and practise specific elements of the Gottman Method with an experienced clinical supervisor and Level 3 Gottman practitioner.

 The Clinical Supervisor

The group supervision will be led by Mr Joachim Lee (PBM), Senior Principal Psychotherapist with over 20 years of clinical experience. He has studied with and received training from some of the top Master Therapists, including Dr John Gottman himself, and Ms Cloe Madanes, originator of the Strategic Family Therapy Approach.

Joachim is a Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) Clinical Supervisor, a member of its Clinical Supervision Board, and Chair of the Community Counsellors Sub-Committee.

Group Supervision Objectives

The objective of the Group Supervision is to build your confidence as a therapist working with couples. The Group Supervision covers different approaches to couple counselling and:

  • Provides a platform for you to review with like-minded professionals, the use of different techniques including specific aspects of The Gottman Method such the Oral History Interview and the Four Horsemen
  • Provides a safe learning space for you to receive feedback from your peers on your clinical work (via video recording of an actual session)
  • Will enable you to pick up new ideas to apply in your own practice
  • Will enable you to learn how to shift a couple’s gridlock into a couple’s shared meaning through experiential processes

What you will receive at the end of the supervision

  • A certificate of attendance from EMCC (100% attendance required)
  • For SAC members, participants can clock in the 8 hours as part of their clinical supervision membership requirements

Application Requirements

  • It is recommended that participants have at least Gottman Level 1 training
  • Participants must have a recorded couple session to be reviewed with the group
